TITLE: SCENE RESONSE BY AMBULANCE

POLICY STATEMENT:

While involved in the ambulance transport of a patient on occasion the EMS crew may come upon the scene of an accident. The following guidelines shall be used to determine what action to take.

GOAL/PURPOSE:

To assure there is no interruption in patient care due to encountering another incident.

POLICY/PROCEDURE:

A. Should the EMS crew discover an emergency required assistance during the course of patient transport, the local EMS system will be activated. Priorities are to the onboard patient. If current transport includes more that two pre-hospital providers, one member may attend the scene while the other complete the original task.

B. In the event there is not a patient onboard the ambulance and an emergency situation is encountered required ambulance assistance, the crew may stop and render care. However, the local EMS system should be activated.
