TITLE: AUTOMATED EXTERNAL
DEFIBRILLATOR (A.E.D.) POLICY STATEMENT: All EMS agencies the responsibility of providing Emergency Medical Services response utilizing a primary emergency transport/non-transport vehicle licensed at the level of EMT-Intermediate is required to equip that unit with an Automated External Defibrillator in compliance with the specifications of this policy. GOAL/PURPOSE: To assure all EMT-Intermediate level approved transport and non-transport primary EMS response emergency vehicles are equipped with an approved A.E.D. POLICY/PROCEDURE: A. All automated external defibrillators must be programmed to function only in the "semi-automatic" mode. B. All semi-automatic external defibrillators must meet or exceed the following features and specifications:
C. Primary response transport/non-transport vehicles licensed at the Intermediate level servicing a designated coverage area are required to be equipped with the specified A.E.D. D. All First Responder and licensed basic life support emergency EMS vehicles utilized as a primary or secondary (back-up) transport unit are not required to be equipped with an A.E.D. Although, if the vehicle is licensed for defibrillation, the A.E.D. must comply with the specification as listed in "B, item 1" of this policy with all other features listed in "B" optional. E. A licensed intermediate
life support emergency EMS vehicle utilized as a secondary (back-up) unit
to the primary response vehicle is required to be equipped with an A.E.D.
The A.E.D. must comply with the specification as listed in "B, item
1" of this policy with all other features listed in "B"
